Inland Chinese Association to help thousands of SBCUSD students who currently wear broken or ill-fitting shoes.

The Inland Chinese Association, with its decades long track record of helping the community through philanthropic projects, will donate 4,000 new shoes to homeless students and foster youth in the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD).

The donation, which will take place Tuesday, November 19 at Arroyo Valley High School, will mark the start of a valuable partnership between the association and SBCUSD. This is the first of three planned shoe donations that will make it possible for 10,000 students in San Bernardino and Highland to have new shoes, especially during the cold and wet winter months.

Giving back to the Inland Empire is one of the Inland Chinese Association’s missions, said President Marie Hung.

“It shocks me to hear that children are using cardboard to patch up their shoes,” Hung said. “We want the students to know these shoes are coming from their neighbors who care about them.”

SBCUSD, the ninth largest school district in California, has about 5,000 homeless students and another 1,000 who live in foster care. Attending the shoe donation will be Abraham Chu, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, and Assembly member Eloise Gómez Reyes, California Assembly District 47.
