Measuring Hope
Students who are passionate about something often put in work above and beyond those who are less passionate. They put in the work because they have confidence--they have hope--that their efforts will be rewarded, that they will achieve their goals and dreams.

To measure hope in this way is rather simple: Count the number of hours over weeks, months and years that your child is spending pursuing their goals and dreams above and beyond what their teachers require or expect. Doing what others require or expect is good and shows a certain level of hope, but it may also be work done out of compulsion or obedience. Joyfully doing more than expected is another level entirely.
