The School Board's authority to establish a police department is found in the California Education Code (Section 38001). Both the Education Code (Section 38001) and the California Penal Code (Section 830.32(b)) designate school police officers as California peace officers.

The SBCUSD police patrol all District sites 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Each comprehensive high school has a police officer and at least six campus security officers assigned during normal operating hours. Middle schools have two campus security officers assigned on-site as well. A primary concern is the protection of students, employees, and visitors. Of equal concern is the prevention of thefts and burglaries. The School Police Department maintains a radio dispatch and alarm monitoring center that is in operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

When faced with an emergency, call (909)388-6130 and you will be assisted immediately. School Police are trained to handle nearly all emergencies or to notify the proper responders for incidents beyond their scope.
