NMS 100

NMS 100 is a district program designed to increase the number of SBCUSD students who qualify to become National Merit Scholars, one of the highest national academic honors a high school student can receive. The goal is to have 100 SBCUSD students qualify in the next four years.

Scores from the junior year PSAT are used to qualify, but preparation should begin as early as middle school and will likely require a substantial time commitment above and beyond what students are required to do in class, which is fitting for students who want to be recognized as one of the best students in the nation. Though trying to become a National Merit Scholar is a lot of work, there are many advantages:

  • An increased chance of admission to the best universities in the nation
  • More scholarship money (up to $100K+)
  • National recognition for students' personal and academic achievements
  • Invitations to special programs

No student becomes a National Merit Scholar without putting in the work, but just as important is having the right mindset: A passion for excellence and learning.
