Dogged investigative work and a swift response by San Bernardino City Unified School District Police officers led to the arrest of three men suspected of robbing high school students of their jewelry.

The robbery spree began in September and ended Friday, September 28 when District Police arrested Demontrion Butler, David Black, and Aaron Keith across the street from Cajon High School, said District Police Sgt. John Guttierez. The men were in an SUV that matched the description of the getaway car used in the robberies.

The trio is suspected of targeting several high school students from San Andreas and Sierra High Schools, who were robbed of gold chains as they walked home from school. Two of the robberies involved San Andreas High students and four robberies targeted Sierra High students. The students were not injured during the incidents. At least two of the robberies involved a handgun, Guttierez said. District Police recovered a handgun, along with property believed to have been stolen during the robberies.

“I commend our officers for doing a great job of investigating these robberies,” Guttierez said. “Because of their work, led by Sgt. Alex Raya, we were able to take three men into custody and stop a dangerous robbery spree in our community.”

Anyone with information about the crimes or who may have been the victim of an unreported robbery is urged to call the District’s See Something, Say Something Hotline at

(909) 388-6043 or the independent WE TIP Hotline at (800) 782-7463.
