Cajon High School Linked Learning Academies through Pathways   

Academy of Arts & Communication Technologies 

FILM THEORY & PRODUCTION PATHWAY- LESLIE BOHN & ERICK HENDRICKSON--Students of the Film Theory and Production pathway will work collaboratively to develop a portfolio that will include samples of original storyboards, scripts, production schedules and outlines, and completed films. Students will be required to participate in the filmmaking process as screenwriter, director, editor, cinematographer, and/or sound technician. Students will develop an understanding of the theoretical, creative, and practical process; learn to use necessary equipment; practice in laboratory and non-laboratory settings; and, identify and explore career opportunities within the industry.   

THEATRE ARTS PATHWAY-CAROL GRIFFITTS--Students will be exposed to current industry standard practices through courses of study, bringing in professionals from the industry and colleges, visiting theatres and colleges, and by providing students with guidance on resume and portfolio preparation.  Through courses, students will learn to create drama and theatre by interpreting and appreciating theatrical works, culture, and experience through scenes and scenarios, improvisation, creating environments, purposeful movement, and research. Furthermore they will express drama and theatre arts skills in a variety of performances, including plays, monologues, improvisation, purposeful movement, scenes, design, technical craftsmanship, media, ensemble works, and public speaking.  

DIGITAL DESIGN PATHWAY- OPEN--The pathway involves creating, designing and producing digitally-generated or computer-enhanced media used in business, training, entertainment, communications and marketing. Students will get started by creating web pages, transforming text documents, pictures, colors and layouts using HTML, Dreamweaver, Animation, and more. Occupations range from web designers, webmasters, 3D animators and virtual reality specialists to multimedia producers and graphic artists. Because organizations of all types and sizes use digital media (the Internet, CD-ROM, DVD, etc.) to communicate with customers and collaborate on ideas, interactive media experts can find employment opportunities in a variety of settings.  

Academy of Health & Biological Sciences


MEDICAL ASSISTING PATHWAY- JJ LIGHT--This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in doctor’s offices, medical clinics/centers and hospitals. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to carry out all duties required for entry-level positions in medical assisting.  The first semester consists of classroom instruction and theory and the second semester the students will be placed in a medical facility for application of skills and training.  

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER-JJ LIGHT & DEBI TIVEY--This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to take appropriate action as the first responder to a medical emergency.  This course covers EMS operations, Safety, Laws and Ethics, Communication and Anatomy & Physiology.  It also covers Healthcare Provider CPR, AED and First Aid, Patient Assessment, Lifting, Moving and Transporting patients.  

SPORTS MEDICINE-STEVE IMBRIANI--Sports Medicine is a medical career pathway established to allow our students the opportunity to learn various aspects of emergency assessment care while also offering all students certification in first aid, CPR, AED, and emergency assessment.  This pathway is going to be used to enable the program to progress into a multi-faceted conglomerate that includes classroom instruction, pre-game therapy, game time athletic training, post-game therapy, and on-going athletic training therapy for the students/staff at Cajon.

Academy of Systems Engineering & Infrastructural Management 

The Automotive Pathway-ROGER LIGHT
---The pathway is designed to to provide a unique and rigorous learning environment for high school students that it ensures both student academic success and career technical education mastery, as well as promotes enthusiasm for lifelong learning. Furthermore, it prepares students for post-secondary education, including apprenticeships and immediate productive employment. Finally the pathway engages regional, state, national and international employers and industries in a vibrant collaboration to respond to current, emerging and changing global workforce needs and expectations. Furthermore, pathway is designed to bring in the maximum number of students into the 10th grade course and provide them with quality basic automotive instruction. During their 11th grade, students can hone their interests and apply their knowledge to a variety of specialty courses. As a senior, students can mix specialties or get advanced training in different areas and work in industry as an intern at community partner locations.

Building Trades, Engineering, & Construction-TIMMY PALMER–“BTEC” students engage in an instructional program that integrates academic and technical preparation and focuses on career awareness, career exploration, and skill preparation in the Building and Construc¬≠tion Trades industry. The pathway emphasizes processes, systems, and the way in which structures are built. The knowledge and skills are acquired in a sequential, standards-based pathway program that integrates hands-on, project-based, and work-based instruction. Standards included in the Building and Construction Trades sector are designed to prepare students for technical training, postsecondary education, and entry to a career.  

Academy of Public Policy & Human Services

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY- CHRIS PETERS & CHRSTIE DOW
--The purpose of the Clinical Psychology Pathway is four-fold, reflecting the four pillars of Linked Learning. The first is to provide students with an introduction to, and foundational instruction for careers in, the psychology and human services fields. The second is to provide students with hands-on, worked-based learning experiences that will give them the opportunity to both observe and assist professionals in these fields in performing their duties.  The third is to provide a rigorous academic and technical core that will result in successful completion of both the A-G sequence, additional A-G courses appropriate to the field, and of advanced, college-level course work. The third is to provide the following personalized support; facilitation of a 10 year plan, an organized after-school tutoring program, mentoring relationships with more advanced students in the pathway and assistance with the college research, admissions and financial aid process.

PRE-LAW STUDIES PATHWAY--E. KACKERY & OPEN
--approaches the law from political, historical, philosophical, and sociological perspectives. Courses provide students with an understanding of the law as both a profession and a field of scholarly inquiry.  Students will employ appropriate terminology and protocols to perform effectively in law based careers.  Students understand how to make effective decisions, research and apply career information relevant to legal and law enforcement careers, manage personal career plans, and demonstrate employment strategies such as resume writing and interview skills. Students write and speak in an effective and persuasive manner in a variety of settings, including presentations that involve fielding questions from an authentic audience. Students form and apply appropriate solutions to law-related issues utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

GLOBAL STUDIES PATHWAY-E. KACKERY & OPEN—The pathway draws from disciplines across the humanities and social sciences to give students the theoretical and methodological skills and the knowledge base necessary to understand a complex and rapidly changing world. The pathway will engage and prepare students in a variety of careers in the international, national, regional, and/or local arena as civic and private based leaders, social service workers, agents of law and employees/employers of private & public businesses. By senior year students will choose their own issue to problem solve within the spectrum of Local/Regional/International affairs; government; diplomacy; public policy making; English as a second language; translation; interpreting; language instruction; law and advocacy; activism, and organizing; media & journalism; higher education teaching or administration; international business and entrepreneurship.
